To make the pencil sculptures, Jennifer Maestre takes hundreds of pencils, cuts them into 1-inch sections, drills a hole in each section (to turn them into beads), sharpens them all and sews them together.

French designer Antoine LEBRUN has created this incredible concept of all-in-one compact kitchen for Fagor Brandt:
The concept is a multifunctional appliance, mixing electromechanical and vegetable technology (for water filtering)
When closed, the system is in washing mode. To access the cooking functions, you just have to open it !
When you close the appliance, the workspace and the sink (including dishes inside) are washed up with natural soap provided by plants.
Ecological, Compact, Design...the kitchen we could have in a near future !

Sobriety and elegance may sound old-fashioned, but as design principles they help provide a distinctly modern version of luxury at Bilbao’s Miró hotel. Fashion designer Antonio Miró has brought the spare sensibility that makes him a favourite on international runways to the hotels’ interiors, to stunning effect.

Using Markina black marble, pale beige tones and the simple ruse of curtains to open or enclose space, fashion designer Antonio Miró has translated his sober and elegant fashion style into interior design with this hotel.
Ideally located between Bilbao’s Museum of Fine Arts and the Guggenheim Museum, this ten-storey hotel was converted from a music school by the architect Carmen Abad Ibáñez de Matauco. Having such prestigious neighbours, its new façade simply had to make an architecturally strong statement: atop six white columns, a thin grid of stone frames 25 large windows, creating a light-box effect at night. Influenced by its surrounding environment and community, the hotel showcases its own photography collection, thus providing a platform for young local as well as international talent. All works are contemporary, including those by Concha Prada and Marc Viaplana. Selected furnishings include wengé-finished tables by French designer Christophe Delcourt, tripod lamps with woven cotton ribbon-shades by Spain’s Santa & Cole and leather and thin chrome metal chairs by Italy’s Flexform in the bar.
Vivid stimulation provided by the museum collections nearby and the central socialising spot being the hotel’s Bar Miró, guestrooms are a welcome cocooning place. Other than the dark wool carpeting and two dashes of colour in the shape of scatter cushions on the bed, the room’s bedding, walls, furnishing and curtains are kept in the palest beige. Not only the wall-sized window but also the working and bathroom areas can disappear at the easy pull of a curtain as soon your full day of exploration draws to a close.
Miro Hotel is ideally situated in the city centre, 200m from the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. 200m from the Euskalduna Auditorium and Congress Centre. 150m from the Zubiarte Shopping Centre.
